BookLikers Recommend Books Not Only For Christmas

Christmas Book RecommendationsChristmas time is coming near so it's great opportunity to discover new books. We asked BookLikers about their recommendations, books that they would like to share with other readers and would be perfect for Christmas gifts as well. Have a look and find your next read or inspiration for bookish present. There's not much time left, so let's read on :-)

SabrinaSabrina recommends two books saying that they are for all readers:

The first book I want to recommend is For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund. This post-apocalyptic retelling of "Persuasion" is full of great characters, deep emotions and it's set in a world that is as fascinating as it is unjust. The second book is Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman. It is a vibrant, emotional book with a cast of extraordinary female characters.

YA Novelties

Girls from YA Novelties recommend books perfect for Christmas time. Here's Jenny's comments on Ex-mas by Kate Brian:

All holiday/winter season books are so cute, especially the contemporary novels! But this one is the cutest! I would highly recommend it, even though the plot sounds super cheesy. (Note: My friends laughed at me for reading this novel, (yeah I know, what mean, judgmental friends I have, but I don't care because I liked this novel!). Basically, the plot is Lila tells her seven year old brother that because of global warming the North Pole is melting, so her brother and her brother's friend ran away to try to warn Santa. (awww is that not the cutest thing?) Basically Lila messed up big time, so she and her ex, her little brother's friend's brother (confusing, right?) go to find their naive siblings. It's too adorable for words! Totally recommend it to those who want a light-hearted, fun Christmas contemporary.

YA NoveltiesAnd Maya's recommendation of Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.

This is a great read for Christmas break and for anytime when you just want to relax with a happy book. It turns out there are actually a limited amount of good Christmas books, which makes absolutely no sense because who wants to read a bad book over Christmas?

Thankfully, Dash & Lily's Book of Dares is a thoroughly enjoyable and amusing read and goes really well with a cup of hot chocolate with exactly two large marshmallows. Not to mention, it's one of the few great Christmas books to gift people because everyone will love it!

Nightingale's BlogSandy from Nightingale's Blog was also charmed with this book. Here's Sandy's recommendation for Dash & Lily's Book of Dares and other reads:

The story is just sweeter than Candy. The character’s are so not like each other, but I really badly wanted them to be WITH each other. There are funny, witty and left me in a complete awe-stroke. Dash & Lily's Book of Dares is truly a little Winter Wonderland. It was my first Book of the fantastic Duo David Levithan and Rachel Cohn. Since then I’ve read Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist and loved it, too. And I have also read Levithan’s latest Work Every Day which I can highly recommend either. So if you’re feeling for a trip to New York right before Christmas, but can’t manage it, take Dash & Lily's Book of Dares and let the adventure begin. The book is great for young Girl’s to read and afterwards giving it to their best Girlfriends, to giggle about it.

Nightingale's BlogThe second book suggested by Sandy is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. We couldn't agree more with this book choice as this very book stands also on  BookLikes' Best Books of 2012 bookshelf :-) And Here's Sandy's opinion:

This was my first Read of John Green, I think (accept for the Short Story Collection “Let it snow”). It was a recommendation of a fellow Lit-Blogger. She wouldn’t stop telling me to read it finally. So I did. Despite of all the praising, I was so caught up in this story and in Hazel and Gus. It is written beautiful, extremely clever, honest, funny and so very sad. I barely know another story that covers so many emotions without being over the top.The Fault in Our Stars is just perfect and bursting through its terminally ill protagonists with life. It is my Must-read recommendation for 2012…and all the over years yet to come. Because of its brilliant writing this book could be in good hands of young Girls, Boys but also their Parents. And ideally they sit together afterwards, talk about these unbelievable kids and exchange their thoughts.
